Smoke and CO alarm certificate Required
- Smoke alarms on every level including the basement and within 10 feet of bedrooms; all smoke alarms, including hardwired, must be under 10 years old
- 10-year sealed battery smoke alarms required; non-sealed battery alarms not accepted; hardwired alarms must be replaced with hardwired
- CO alarm on each level with a sleeping area, near the bedrooms; the form says CO alarms must be under 5 years old
- Fire extinguisher (form dated 2023): at least 5 lb 2A:10BC and no larger than 10 lb 4A:60BC, charged, mounted in plain view within 10 feet of the kitchen, not behind doors or in a cabinet
- Fire alarm systems must be put on test through the alarm company; owner must know codes to silence and reset
- Someone over 18 must be present
- If the change of occupancy does not occur within 6 months, a new application is required
