Certificate of Occupancy Required
Resale Certificate (Continued Certificate of Occupancy) · Borough of Haworth Building Department (Construction Official)
- Smoke detectors on every level (battery units allowed in existing 1 and 2 family homes); basement detector on the basement ceiling at the foot of the stairs
- Carbon monoxide detectors within 10 feet of bedrooms in the hallway (not inside bedrooms)
- Hardwired systems must be interconnected
- Sump pump must discharge onto the property or street, not into the Borough sewer
- Pool: compliant locking gate and fencing
- House number near the front door light, 4 to 6 inches high, contrasting colors
- Handrails where there are 4 or more steps
- Anti-tip bracket on the stove
- Sidewalks, curbs and gutters in safe, even condition
- No fire extinguisher needed (form notes the February 3, 2025 change)

Smoke and CO alarm certificate Required
- Approved smoke detection and carbon monoxide detector installed per NFPA 72 and N.J.A.C. 5:70-2.3
- Battery smoke and CO detectors are allowed in existing 1 and 2 family homes; electric systems must be interconnected
- Smoke detectors on every level, within 10 feet of sleeping areas in a common area, not within 3 feet of an outside door, window or air vent
- No fire extinguisher required (per the Borough's 2/25/2025 form)
